MajGhar - Thane
About This Spot
MajGhar in Thane feels like stepping into a warm corner of the Konkan coast—a modest space where the pace slows down just enough to savor not only the flavors but also the simple joys of gathering around a rustic table. The intimate setting, with only a handful of tables quietly nestled close, invites easy conversation and a shared appreciation for coastal comfort food that leans into tradition without being rigid.
Walking in, the surroundings hint at a village home by the sea, where wooden accents and cozy lighting create a familiar kind of welcome. It’s not flashy or polished, but that unpretentious vibe is part of the charm—much like the home-cooked meals that anchor the experience here. There’s a soft hum of contentment from families and friends coming together, a pause from the city’s rush, where the focus is on good food and genuine atmosphere.
Food at MajGhar is a heartfelt nod to the Konkani table, offering dishes that carry the coastline’s character in their spice, fragrance, and textures. It’s less about elaborate presentation and more about honest flavors—prawns and pomfret with just the right balance of spice and tang, crab and fish fry that taste as if they’ve been pulled fresh from the waves. The meals arrive generous and thoughtfully paired with chutneys and solkadi, completing plates that nourish and satisfy quietly but surely.
This is a spot where some dishes veer into a subtle fusion, blending traditional Konkani elements with touches that reflect a contemporary touch. The result is a menu that feels at once comforting and invitingly familiar, without the pressure of strict authenticity. MajGhar welcomes everyone looking for that grounded seafood meal in a space that feels more personal than polished—where the food invites you to slow down, share stories, and enjoy a little coastal calm in the heart of Thane.

Visited Majghar for a seafood meal and overall had a good experience. The interiors have a cozy Konkan village homes tyle vibe, which adds to the charm of the place. We started with jawla masala papad, which was nice. The bombil fry was amazing, crispy and full of flavor, though a bit on the expensive side. The pomfret thali was average, but the thecha prawns were absolutely yummy and the highlight of the meal. Service was decent. We had pre-booked via Zomato, so there wasn’t much waiting, and paying through Zomato helped us get a 10% discount on the bill. Overall, a good experience and would consider visiting again to try more items from the menu.

Savour the flavour, Ignore the decor. This restaurant was not my 1st option and I went there just because it was nearby from wherever I was and we were hungry. My first opinion of the restaurant was not very good as it didn't smell like how a restaurant should smell when you go near it. As I entered I noticed it's a very small place with only 5 tables put close to each other. It was dark and a bit unappetizing. Still we wanted to give it a try as we were hungry. We ordered surmai, bombil, banda and chicken thali and mandeli fry. However uninviting the place, the food was sumptuous. Everything was good. Full on gharguti jevan. Loved the solkadhi. So if you can overlook the appearance, this will be worth your penny. No Chicken mutton starters available here. Only fish. Surmai fry is a must try

Place is very good for a family dine in Only draw back is it is not an proper proper konkan/malvan food serving restaurant, lot of konkani dishes are fusion, so if you looking for authentic fish cuisine then this is not your first choice or else it is good place to dine in.

We started with the Prawn Fry (₹399), which, to be honest, wasn't a showstopper. It lacked that 'wow' factor in flavor but still delivered a genuinely pleasant taste. For the main course, the Mutton Thali (₹599) was the star of the lunch. The mutton curry, rich and gravy-based, truly resonated with authentic, traditional flavors—it felt like a culinary journey. This thali is absolutely worth ordering and makes for a fantastic main, though be prepared, the whole experience does lean towards the pricier side. In summary: A decent starter followed by a spectacular, authentic, but slightly premium-priced main course.

Tried Majghar for the first time and ordered the Surmai Wade Thali — absolutely loved it! The surmai was nicely fried, completely odorless, and cooked just the way I like it — less spicy and less oily. The thali was generous and well-balanced: 4 wade, a bowl of rice, flavorful surmai curry, jawla chutney, pudina chutney, salad, 1 soft gulab jamun, and a refreshing solkadi. Everything was fresh and tasted home-style. The quantity was more than sufficient for one person. Definitely a great experience and I’m looking forward to trying more dishes from their menu. Thank you, Majghar!
